I Support a Different Israel, Unshackled from Benjamin Netanyahu and his Associates
I’m writing this not just as a member of Israel’s opposition in parliament, but as a mother and a young woman living under Benjamin Netanyahu’s rule. His long time in power has left my generation feeling hopeless, with no vision for a better future. We’re standing up to protect Israel’s identity as a liberal democracy that embraces coexistence.
Israel is in a tough situation due to a war that started after a terrible massacre in October. It’s been six months of hardship and loss. The only way to end this war is through diplomatic solutions, with support from the US and the global community.
Netanyahu’s government, along with its extreme allies, lacks a clear plan to end the war, leading to more violence and isolation from the world. But it’s important to know that this government doesn’t represent most Israelis, as shown by many opinion polls.
As a member of parliament, I meet with the people I represent, and they’re nothing like Netanyahu’s government. I see organizations that bring Jews and Arabs together, helping communities in need.
The real Israel is not the noisy minority calling for violence. Most Israelis want peace and to rebuild their communities destroyed by attacks. They want their loved ones back, not more bloodshed. That’s why thousands have protested, demanding new elections and a government that listens to them.
Netanyahu, facing serious accusations and low approval ratings, seems more interested in holding onto power than ending the conflict. But the future can’t be decided by extremists. People on both sides want prosperity and security, not more fighting.
My family came to Israel from Morocco, dreaming of a country that values life above all. We’ve dreamed of peace and security, especially for our children. With support from the US and the world, we can make that dream a reality.
To everyone, especially those of Jewish descent, I ask: don’t abandon us. Stand with us as we work towards peace for Israelis and Palestinians. A government that respects democracy isn’t impossible. Together, we can create a better future for all in this region.
