In the age of AI, the technology has permeated practically every industry, including dating apps. It is integrating AI onto its platform, although it does not include chatting or dating a robot.
Enhancing User Safety
They introduced its new AI-powered Deception Detector on Tuesday, which uses AI to assist identify fraudulent, scam, or spam profiles on the app before users interact with them, according to the release.
Their freshly introduced Deception Detector technology attempts to protect users from hazardous information by identifying and responding to it. They determined that the technology successfully blacklisted 95% of the accounts identified as spam or fraudulent during testing. During the first two months of testing, Bumble saw a 45% decrease in customer complaints about spam, scams, and fraudulent accounts. Deception Detector works alongside Bumble’s team of human moderators.

The study found that 46% of women are concerned about the authenticity of their online connections when using dating apps.

Building on its track record of using AI to improve user safety, Bumble debuted ‘Private Detector’ in 2019, a function that automatically identifies and blurs problematic photographs while giving users the choice to see or report such content.
It also utilizing AI in its dedicated app, Bumble For Friends, which is intended particularly for establishing friends.

CEO’s Perspective
According to Bumble research, nearly half of the women asked (46%) were concerned about whether or not the people they matched with were genuine. The study also found that phoney accounts and the potential of scams were top worries in India, with 29% of respondents wanting to keep their personal information protected.
“With a special focus on women’s online experiences, we understand that in the AI era, trust is more important than ever. We are thinking about how to best leverage new models to alleviate the worry of creating connections and help our community, with AI serving as a primary focus.” Jones added.
Bumble claims that Deception Detector, which is built on a machine learning model, was able to prevent up to 95% of such accounts.
It appears that the company’s AI-powered feature is used in conjunction with human support to provide a safer online dating environment. However, it does not provide information on how its Deception Detector works. Bumble has recently added many new features, including Private Detector, which uses AI to detect and filter naked photographs, and an AI-powered conversation starter for Bumble For Friends.
