Sammy Hagar-Backed Venue in Fontana Set to Open June 15
Fontana is gearing up for the grand opening of a new concert venue with a special touch from hometown hero Sammy Hagar. Named Stage Red, this venue marks a significant addition to the city’s entertainment scene, promising not only top-notch performances but also a vibrant atmosphere infused with Hagar’s iconic style.
The venue, located in Fontana’s downtown area, is a replacement for the former Center Stage Theater, which closed its doors in August 2022. Originally slated to open its doors for Memorial Day in 2023, the project faced delays, pushing the opening to March 2024. However, due to budgetary constraints, even that date was postponed. Now, after overcoming various hurdles, Stage Red is set to welcome its first audience on June 15.
Construction challenges and budget adjustments have been part of the journey. Phil Burum, Fontana’s deputy city manager, explained that the initial timeline was optimistic, with construction supposed to commence in October. However, the lowest bid for the project exceeded expectations by $1 million, prompting a reevaluation of the budget and a restart of the bidding process.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Stage Red holds significant economic promise for Fontana. Historically, the theater generated around $200,000 annually in ticket sales. With Stage Red, city officials anticipate a substantial increase, estimating annual ticket sales to reach $2 million to $3 million. This surge in revenue, primarily from sales tax, will undoubtedly bolster Fontana’s financial resources.
The theater’s offerings will cater to diverse preferences, with plans for various ticket options. These include general admission for fans eager to be close to the action, elevated seating with cocktail service, and VIP experiences featuring balcony seats overlooking the stage. Additionally, plans for a VIP meet-and-greet room aim to provide fans with unique opportunities to interact with their favorite artists.
Leading the charge in managing day-to-day operations is ASM Global, a renowned venue and event management company responsible for overseeing programming at notable venues across Southern California. With Hagar himself slated to headline the opening day performance, anticipation is high for what Stage Red will bring to Fontana’s cultural landscape.
