Ishan Kishan’s IPL 2024: T20 World Cup Selection Not Guaranteed
In the latest IPL 2024 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 11, MI secured their second victory of the tournament by defeating RCB by seven wickets.
After the match, Ishan Kishan was asked about his chances of being selected for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He responded by saying that it’s not something he can control and he prefers to focus on one match at a time, taking things easy.
There have been concerns raised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding Ishan Kishan’s IPL commitment, particularly when he opted out of the Ranji Trophy against BCCI’s advice. Consequently, the BCCI didn’t renew his central contract.
There were speculations that Ishan Kishan’s decision to skip domestic cricket might affect his chances of being selected for the T20 World Cup.
Regarding the pitch, Ishan Kishan mentioned that as wicket-keepers observe the pitch throughout the match, they have a better understanding of how it behaves.
He emphasized the importance of a strong start in the powerplay overs, especially when chasing a big target, as it sets the tone for the rest of the match.
In the match against RCB, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma formed a solid opening partnership of 101 runs. Although Rohit got out, Suryakumar Yadav carried on the momentum, helping Mumbai chase down the target of 197 runs successfully in just 15.3 overs.
