Chennai Traffic Advisory for PM Modi’s Election Roadshow
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gearing up for a visit to Chennai as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In preparation for his arrival, the Greater Chennai Police have implemented traffic restrictions in the city on April 9, urging commuters to adhere to the advisory to mitigate potential congestion.
The highlight of PM Modi’s itinerary is a roadshow scheduled to take place at Thiyagaraya Road in the bustling T. Nagar locality, commencing at 6 pm. Additionally, he is slated to address a public gathering in support of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates from Vellore and Dharmapuri constituencies.
The police have forewarned residents about anticipated traffic congestion between 3 pm to 8 pm, particularly along key thoroughfares such as Mount Poonamallee Road, Gandhi Mandapam Road, CIPET junction, GST Road, Anna Salai, SV Patel Road, 100 feet road, and T Nagar.
To facilitate the smooth conduct of the roadshow, Thiyagaraya Road has been designated as a “sterile zone” from 3 pm onwards, with parking prohibited along Thiyagaraya Road, Venkata Narayana Road, North Boag Road, and GN Chetty Road until the conclusion of the event.
Restricted routes include Mount Poonamallee Road towards Anna Salai, Kathipara flyover to Saidapet, Tidel Park to Gandhi Mandapam, CPT towards the airport and Gandhi Mandapam, Anna Statue towards Mount Road, CIPET towards Anna Salai, Vadapalani towards T. Nagar Valluvar Kottam, and Pallavaram GST Road towards Kathipara.
The BJP’s campaign strategy encompasses both South Chennai and Central Chennai constituencies. Tamilisai Soundararjan represents the BJP in South Chennai, while Vinoj P Selvam contests against prominent DMK figure Dayanidhi Maran in Central Chennai.
Leading the BJP’s charge in Tamil Nadu is K Annamalai, the state president, who is contesting from Coimbatore. Collaborating with allies such as the Pattali Makkal Katchi and Tamil Maanila Congress-Moopanar, the BJP aims to bolster its electoral performance significantly this election cycle.
Despite lacking representation from Tamil Nadu in the outgoing parliament, the BJP is making concerted efforts to secure a foothold in the state’s political landscape, leveraging an assertive and aggressive campaign strategy under Annamalai’s leadership.
